Are you a contractor?
No. We are a free referral service. We don't perform work; we connect homeowners with independent, licensed California contractors, who may pay us a referral fee.
How many contractors will contact me?
One. Each request goes to a single participating contractor, never a list, and only if you check the consent box.
What does it cost?
Nothing for homeowners, and there is no obligation to hire.
Which areas do you cover?
Central Los Angeles: Hancock Park, Fairfax & Beverly Grove, Mid-City, West Hollywood and Mid-Wilshire, plus the San Fernando Valley: the City of LA's Valley neighborhoods (from Studio City and Sherman Oaks to Woodland Hills, Northridge, Sylmar and Sunland-Tujunga), Burbank and the City of San Fernando. We'd rather say no than take a request we can't place.
How do I check a contractor's license?
Use the free CSLB license lookup. Check that the license is active and covers the work.
Do I need a permit for a driveway in LA?
On your own lot, a driveway not more than 30 inches above grade is exempt from a building permit under LAMC 91.106. (LAMC 91.106) The approach and curb in the public right-of-way generally need a Bureau of Engineering A-Permit. (BOE permit manual)
How long before I can drive on new concrete?
HomeGuide says new concrete is usually ready to drive or park on after 7 to 10 days, and recommends waiting 30 days before parking heavier vehicles; full cure takes about a month. (HomeGuide) Follow your contractor's instructions.
How much can a contractor ask as a down payment?
In California, no more than $1,000 or 10% of the contract price, whichever is less, for a home improvement contract. (Cal. BPC 7159.5)
Who is responsible for the sidewalk in front of my house?
Yes, under LAMC 62.104 the owner of the lot is responsible for maintaining it. (LAMC 62.104) Enforcement has been suspended in some circumstances, but the duty remains, and some building permits can trigger a repair requirement. (StreetsLA FAQ)
